A suitable generator location depends on the selected equipment and the property. Openings, exhaust, cooling airflow, service access, drainage and local requirements all matter. The shortest route to a panel or gas supply is only one factor in a safe, workable installation.

Look at the property as a complete site.
A short route to the panel or gas supply can help practicality, but it is not the only consideration. Openings and intakes, exhaust, cooling air, service access, boundaries, easements, drainage and nearby occupied areas all matter.
Final placement must follow the actual model instructions and the approved site design. An exterior photo or a generic website diagram cannot approve a location.

Clearances are model- and condition-specific.
The inspected Generac family sheet describes an 18-inch proximity only under stated conditions and local rules. That is not a universal distance from windows, doors, air intakes or every structure.
Fences, screens and landscaping must preserve ventilation, exhaust and service access. Do not design a decorative enclosure first and assume the generator will fit inside it.

Flooding and coastal exposure need deliberate planning.
Do not assume a standard ground pad suits a flood-prone property. Review the applicable elevation and support requirements together with transfer equipment, fuel components and the intended routes.
Corrosion-resistant enclosure material does not eliminate upkeep, and a wind statement for an enclosure is not a guarantee for the entire installation. Anchoring, support and site exposure need the applicable design.

The current 22–28 kW family sheet lists 67 dB(A) in normal operation and 55 dB(A) during low-speed exercise, measured 23 feet from the front. Other sides and installation conditions can differ.
An exercise-mode figure is not full-operation noise. Consider nearby bedrooms and neighbors, then check applicable local noise and exercise restrictions.

Pinellas County’s building department serves unincorporated areas and specified municipalities—not every city in the county. County and municipal responsibilities must be resolved before applying one area’s requirements to another.
Share any known flood, HOA, space or access concerns when requesting the estimate. The assessment can identify the approvals and trades your project needs.
