If you already own a portable generator, we fit a generator inlet box and an interlock kit so you can power circuits in the house from it safely. The interlock is the part that matters. What Central Florida homeowners ask us most before buying a generator.
Do you install standby generators, or only the hookup for a portable one?
Both. For a permanent standby generator we install the whole system, a Generac unit wired into your electrical system so it takes over on its own when the power goes out. For a portable generator we install a generator inlet box and an interlock kit, so you can run circuits in the house from it safely.
Which generators do you install?
Generac. We are an authorized Generac dealer, so the standby units we fit are Generac. If you have a strong preference for another brand, say so on the call and we will be straight with you about whether we can help.
How big a generator do I need?
That depends on what you want to keep running, and it is one of the things your electrician works out on the free estimate. Some households only want the essentials covered and others want the whole house to carry on as normal. Tell us which of those you are after and we will price the system that covers it.
Who handles the gas or propane connection?
Fuel-gas work is handled by an appropriately qualified trade. Your proposal explains who coordinates the gas or propane connection and what is included or handled separately.
Do you service or maintain generators?
Mister Safety does not currently offer generator maintenance. Arrange the required care with a qualified service provider and retain maintenance records. Installation, routine maintenance and manufacturer warranty service are separate responsibilities.
What does the warranty cover on a generator install?
Two separate things, and it is worth knowing which is which. The generator is covered by Generac’s own manufacturer warranty. We include a 10-year Generac extended limited warranty on eligible equipment, subject to the issued agreement, registration, maintenance requirements and exclusions. Our qualifying installation workmanship has separate labor-only coverage for 36 months under standard terms, or 12 months when discounted terms are disclosed before approval.
Is the estimate really free?
Yes, and there is no obligation attached to it. A generator install is work whose scope we can see, so your electrician looks at your panel, your electrical service and where a unit could go, then prices it at no charge. The visual assessment carried out on arrival is free as well.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, through Avvance, Hearth, Synchrony Bank and Wisetack. You can apply with Avvance or see your options with Hearth online before we arrive; Synchrony and Wisetack are presented in person during the estimate, once your electrician knows what the work actually involves. Programs can include 0% interest promotional terms for qualified applicants. Our technicians do not earn more for putting you on a plan, so it gets explained as an option and then left with you.
Are you licensed and insured?
Mister Safety is a Certified Electrical Contractor in Florida, license #EC13016024, and we are fully insured. We pull permits under that license and meet the inspector on site for work that requires it.
What areas do you serve?
We serve St. Petersburg, Tampa, The Villages, Wesley Chapel, Zephyrhills and the surrounding Central Florida communities. If you are just outside that list, call us anyway, chances are we cover you.

What affects the installed price?

Do I need natural gas?

Do you offer generator maintenance?
Mister Safety does not currently offer generator maintenance. Your Generac still needs the inspections and engine service specified in its owner’s manual, even when outages are rare. Arrange ongoing care with a qualified service provider and retain maintenance records. Long outages can add checks and service based on running hours.
Maintenance is separate from the installation estimate and the equipment warranty.
Can you help with a portable generator connection?
Yes. Portable-generator inlets and compatible transfer switches or panel interlocks are a separate option where appropriate. Select that service in the form and tell us about your generator. Portable backup generally requires manual operation and selected-load planning.

What affects the cost of a Generac installation?
The generator’s capacity and features, transfer switch, load-management equipment, electrical upgrades, mounting work, wire and gas-line distances, trenching, fuel supply and local approvals all affect the installed price. An equipment-only price is not a complete installation quote.
Your free estimate should identify included work and any separate responsibilities, such as a gas utility upgrade or propane tank work. Ongoing costs include fuel, maintenance and any monitoring subscription you choose.
Which Generac model and size do I need?
Generac’s residential range includes newer cellular-connected 10–28 kW models alongside Guardian models with different controls and connectivity. These are product options to discuss, not a statement of local stock. The right choice starts with the loads you want to run, their startup demands and how often they may run together. Model availability and the proposed equipment are confirmed during the estimate process.
Check output for the intended fuel: a model’s natural-gas and propane ratings can differ. A large transfer-switch amp rating describes the switch’s capacity; it does not increase the generator’s output.
Can I keep my air conditioning running?
Often it can be part of the plan, but the answer depends on your HVAC equipment, starting demand, other loads and generator capacity. Tell us which cooling systems matter most. Compatible load management may help prioritize those loads without promising unlimited power.
Load management controls when selected appliances receive power. It does not create extra generating capacity or serve the same function as a motor soft starter.
How do automatic operation and monitoring work?
An automatic transfer switch separates utility power from generator power. After an outage is detected, the standby generator starts and the switch transfers the designated loads; the system returns them to utility power when it is stable again. There is a brief interruption, so this is not uninterrupted power for sensitive equipment.
Generac monitoring features vary by model. Compatible Wi-Fi or cellular equipment can provide status and maintenance information through Mobile Link. Immediate alerts and some features require a paid plan; exact features depend on the model, connectivity and subscription. App monitoring does not include monitoring or service by Mister Safety.
Should I choose natural gas or propane?
Natural gas uses a utility supply, where available, with adequate meter and line capacity. Propane uses stored fuel and requires a suitable tank, delivery access and a refill plan. Both must meet the generator’s fuel specifications.
Runtime depends on fuel availability, tank capacity where applicable, electrical load and required maintenance stops. A natural-gas connection does not guarantee unlimited operation if gas service is interrupted.
Where can the generator be installed in Florida?
The location must satisfy the selected model’s installation instructions and applicable local requirements. The review considers doors, windows, vents, exhaust, property lines, flood exposure, mounting, maintenance access and noise.
Electrical and fuel-gas approvals can be separate. City, county, utility and HOA requirements may differ. We clarify the applicable requirements and coordination responsibilities for your property during planning.
What maintenance does a standby generator need?
A standby generator needs periodic inspections and engine service, even if outages are uncommon. Oil, filters, battery condition and other service items follow the specific owner’s manual; calendar time, running hours and operating conditions can all affect the schedule.
Mister Safety does not currently offer generator maintenance. Arrange ongoing care with a qualified service provider and retain maintenance records. Automatic exercise and app notifications do not replace service, and routine maintenance is separate from equipment warranty coverage.
