How to Identify Your Electrical Panel

A brand name and model number can help identify your panel, but they do not establish its condition or safety. Start with records or labels already visible from a safely accessible exterior position. If identification would require removing a cover or approaching damaged equipment, leave it to a professional.

Get clear options for your Florida home. Any paid diagnostic or inspection is explained before approval.

Start with information you already have.

An old estimate, permit record, inspection report or equipment receipt may identify a panel without you approaching it. Look for the manufacturer, product-family name and catalog or model number. The year the home was built is only background; equipment may have been replaced later.

If a label is already visible from a safely accessible exterior position, copy the wording exactly. Do not remove a metal cover, open an internal compartment or move equipment to find a number. If access is uncertain, let the electrician identify it.

A logo is the beginning, not the full identification.

Names that need a second look
Visible nameWhat to clarify
Square DQO or Homeline? These use different breaker platforms.
Eaton / Cutler-HammerBR or CH? The related name alone is insufficient.
GE / ABBExisting GE or PowerMark equipment, or current ReliaHome?
Sylvania / GTE-SylvaniaDoes this particular equipment use the older Zinsco design?
Siemens / Murray / I-T-EWhat exact model and documented replacement system apply?

Which box are you looking at?

The meter location, a main disconnect and an indoor distribution panel may be separate. A subpanel can have its own main breaker without being the home’s service equipment. Tell us where the equipment is—garage, outside wall, utility area or detached building—without trying to trace wiring.

A logo on one breaker does not establish the identity or condition of the entire assembly. Replaced covers, old labels and mixed components are reasons to confirm the equipment professionally.

What should you tell Mister Safety?

  • The exact name already visible, or “not sure.”
  • The reason for the request: repeated tripping, an inspection note, replacement planning or a new electrical load.
  • Whether the equipment is indoors or outdoors and whether you have noticed water exposure or visible deterioration from a normal safe position.
  • Any plans for an EV charger, generator, renovation, solar, storage or pool equipment.

Photographs have limits.

A picture may help narrow the brand or family. It cannot show whether a breaker trips correctly, whether concealed connections are sound or whether the system has sufficient capacity. We do not issue a safe/unsafe verdict from a photo.

This inquiry form accepts a written description. If the office later requests an image, use only a safely accessible exterior view; do not expose internal parts or approach damaged equipment.

Help Identify My Panel

Questions homeowners ask.

What if I cannot find a label?

Use any existing paperwork and describe the location. You do not need to expose internal parts to make a service request.

Can the main-breaker number tell me my service capacity?

It is one detail. The complete service, conductors and upstream equipment must be evaluated; a photo of a number is not a load-capacity assessment.

Should I remove the panel cover?

No. Leave covers and internal compartments in place. Professional identification can be part of the appropriate visit.

Can a photo prove a panel is safe?

No. Exterior photos can help identify equipment but cannot establish electrical safety.

Tell us what you have and what you want to change. You do not need to know the brand or the right technical term.

Estimate or evaluation?

Free estimates price defined installation or replacement work. Investigating an unknown fault or providing a diagnostic or inspection is a separate service. We explain the scope and any fee before you approve paid work.
