“The counter is dark when I cook.” “The ceiling lights reflect in the television.” “I want an easier bedside control.” These describe a useful goal. A fixture count alone does not explain what success would look like.
Begin with room use, furniture and the surfaces that matter. Then compare targeted task light, a new fixture, a different layout and control changes. You may be able to meet the goal with a focused project.

Equipment cost alone is not the installed project cost. We provide pricing for the agreed task; ask what is included and what needs separate coordination. Do not assume that selection advice, detailed design drawings or painting are automatically part of every installation.

Check the address, not just the mailing city.
Permitting depends on the actual jurisdiction and work. Tampa publishes the 2023 Florida Building Code, 8th Edition, and 2020 NEC. Other authorities and permit dates require their own confirmation; a newer model-code publication is not automatically the locally adopted requirement.
Tampa uses a commercial permit route for condominium work even though the space is residential. Unincorporated Hillsborough has its own permit process. Coordinate association requirements and access where relevant. If the project needs supply or service changes, identify the serving utility for the property.

Plan the disruption and the sequence.
A remodel can offer access before walls or ceilings are closed. A finished room may need a different route or restoration plan. Discuss furniture protection, work access and affected areas without assuming a universal no-patching method.
Keep the fixture instructions and agree on the desired controls and color settings before commissioning. A known installation has an estimate pathway; investigating an unknown fault or a separately scoped inspection can require an approved paid visit.

A plan can begin with a short sentence: “The counter is dark when I prepare food,” or “The ceiling lights reflect in the television.” That is more useful than starting with a fixed number of lights. The estimate should then explain the agreed solution and who is responsible for each part.
The plan and the estimate answer different questions. The plan describes the lighting result and where it belongs. The estimate describes the agreed work and responsibilities to get there. A clear project needs both, even when the plan is straightforward.
Tell us what matters most, what is staying in the room and whether remodeling is underway. We can then discuss practical choices without making you guess the number of lights, open equipment or decide electrical requirements yourself.

How many recessed lights do I need?
There is no universal room-size formula. Placement, output, beam, ceiling height and the task all matter.
Will installation include painting?
Only if the agreed scope says so. Clarify patching, texture and painting responsibility before work.
Is a lighting plan included for free?
No design-service entitlement was verified. Ask what selection or layout work is included in the estimate.
Do you publish an installed price per light?
The assessed task, access, fixture, controls and restoration determine the quote. This guide does not substitute an equipment price for a complete installed estimate.
