USB-C Outlets: Charging That Fits Your Devices

A USB-C outlet can free ordinary sockets from charging adapters. Charging performance depends on the outlet, cable, connected device and whether another port is in use. Start with what you want to charge, then confirm the installation fits.

Free estimates for defined installation work. Unknown-fault diagnostics are paid, with charges explained before approval.

01 / USB-C Outlets

One port’s rating is not always two ports’ output.

Compare the power available to one connected device with what happens when both USB-C ports are occupied. These exact Leviton examples illustrate why the model matters.

Up to 60W

One compatible PD device

The device and cable must support the offered power. Actual charging can be lower.

Manufacturer output examples, not a charge-time estimate. Power Delivery negotiation and device/cable compatibility still apply.

Choose for the devices you actually use.

Power Delivery lets compatible charging equipment negotiate a supported power level. A laptop in use can have different needs from one charging while asleep. A charger’s highest rating is not a guaranteed rate for every device.

Phone or tablet

Share an existing model or product link. Check cable and charging compatibility rather than choosing by connector alone.

Two devices together

Consider the combined allowance and the per-port behavior with both connected. Do not assume each gets the full total.

Laptop at a desk

Check the computer’s charging needs. Its original plug-in adapter may remain a better fit for higher-power or changing requirements.

Exact models, different jobs.

USB-C describes a connector; it does not establish Power Delivery or laptop charging capability. Retain required shock protection when considering any replacement.

Built in still needs room behind the wall.

Charging electronics take space. The electrician checks the box and conductor fill, circuit and protection, and whether the existing outlet has a switched or separate-feed arrangement. The reviewed CC1P3 and CC1P6 instructions prohibit separate-feed applications.

A location plan can include one charging position or several. Agree on devices, electrical corrections, access and finish repair in the proposal. Equipment cost is separate from the installed price. Manufacturer product terms and Mister Safety workmanship coverage are also separate.

Technical fit and product-document note

The CC1P3 manual specifies minimum box dimensions of 3 × 2 × 2.5 inches plus box-fill review. The linked CC1P6 manual specifies at least 20 cubic inches plus fill requirements. Neither is a fit guarantee for an existing box.

CC1P6 product-page and linked-manual warranty/connection descriptions disagree. Confirm the actual shipped revision and applicable terms before ordering; no definitive duration or terminal specification is promised here.

A clearer way to understand it

In Simple Terms

Think of the charger’s wattage as an available allowance, not a charging-speed promise. The device must support the offered power and the cable must be suitable. Sharing can change how much each device receives.

Built-in USB charging is a convenience choice. It does not make an outlet circuit more powerful, create a data connection or remove the need for required protection. Tell us the devices and locations; let the electrician assess what is behind the wall.

Your questions, answered.

Will it charge every USB-C laptop?

No. Check the laptop’s supported charging input and cable. Some computers or workloads need more power than the wall charger can provide.

Will both ports always deliver the maximum total rating?

No. Use the exact model’s simultaneous-use rating. The CC1P6 example provides up to 30W per port with both in use, within its 60W total.

Can I transfer data through these USB ports?

The reviewed CC1P3 instructions identify charging-only ports, not data connections.

Should I remove the cover to see whether it fits?

No. An exterior photograph cannot determine box fill, grounding or feed arrangement. Use an already-available model link and let the electrician review concealed conditions.
